Our daughter, Clare, is entering her senior year of high school next year. She's often let us know she'd like to visit Ireland someday. Because this may be one of our last big family vacations together, we thought we'd grant her wish.

I've been to Ireland twice before. My first trip was February 1979. I'd been studying in England and a couple friends and I took the ferry to Ireland for a few days. We hitch hiked and stayed in hostels in Dublin, Bray and Waterford. I was pretty much broke -- in fact when I returned to the States a few weeks later, I had less than $1 in my pocketbook. It was fun though.

The second time I was in Ireland was on my honeymoon. We stayed in bed and breakfasts in Dublin, Galway and Wexford. That trip was also fun, but in a different way.

I've been planning this trip since January of this year. We've arranged our accommodation -- all except for the last night, where we'll try to stay close to the airport after dropping off our car.

We leave the evening of July 4 and fly to Dublin where we'll pick up a car and drive to a small town called Firies in County Kerry. We hear it is a 4 - 5 hour drive (from a local -- so I'll trust she's right).
